Watch It Today... Pray Tomorrow

Phew... what a day, while you were all searching the Internet for men you like to swoon over, I was hard at work wrapping, addressing, printing, and yes... drinking. I am happy to report that I am 11% done with my Christmas preparations... I figure I should be up to speed by the time Valentine's Day rolls around. (Don't forget to go down and vote! Time is running out!)

Anyway, while I was wrapping presents for teachers and postmen and physical trainers (I don't even work out! What a scam!) and the guy who stands at the corner of 72nd and Dodge in the morning with a sign that reads "The World Is Coming To An End AND IT IS YOUR FAULT!" I decided to watch my new DVD Mama Mia. I bought it for myself for Christmas... so what if I already opened it.

When the movie came out in theaters, I did this post about it: I Try To Always Set A Good Example... Basically, I loved the movie! I thought it was GREAT! But after I posted about it and got comments and emails about what a bad premise it was and it is just full of sin! sin! sin! I started to rethink my original review that it was F.A.B.U.L.O.U.S.

Well let me tell you, after watching it again today, I stand by my review of this movie. Why? Because it isn't about a woman who has sex with different men and does not know who the father of her child is... well, Okay, it essentially IS about that... but only on the surface. If you can get past that-and we have all made mistakes and looked back at moments in our lives when we didn't always make the right choices, like when Joey Oakley asked me if he could look under my skirt in the 2nd grade and I let him... I regret that, I truly do, but what am I going to do about it now? The past is the past, sins are forgiven... no matter how big they are.

This movie is about friendship. The kind of friendship that can take you to the moon and back with fierce loyalty and devotion. Women have amazing friendships and I have a very small circle of women whom I consider my dearest and closest friends. They are: Colleen, Claire, Shannon, Lori, Lisa, Janet, my ma... and that is it! I love each of these women so much that there is not a single sin that could make me turn my back on them. I know they feel the same about me.

Mama Mia shows us the heart of friendship-so go rent it! Watch it again and set aside your "I can't believe she had sex with three different men and she doesn't know who the father of her child is!" notions and just enjoy the friendship that is in front of you. If your best friend-the one that you laugh with so hard that you pee a little in your granny panties-one day told you a dark deep secret that she regrets, would you dump her? No... you would do a song and dance number and everything would be Okay. Trust me on that.

And besides, this scene from the movie reminds me of when Carl and I were engaged and he just wanted me to lay all of my love on him. The actors even look like us... except for the fact that we weren't in Greece, we were in Chicagoland and he is Puerto Rican and my hair was not that long when I got married, but there were men in flippers and Carl does smoke cigars...you get the point! By the way, I am personally adding Dominic Cooper to the list... I was swooning over him all afternoon.

I think that the friendships between the lead characters are also the main reason why women watch Sex and the City. Well, that and the clothes! =P

I love the sentiment that you express here. Getting caught up in judgment can make us forget that all of us are human and that we may one day need the same forgiveness we're withholding now. And friendship is what gets us through.

Plus, everything's better as a musical!

just to clarify, Mama Mia, is a fictional movie is it not? If advertisers can tell their customers that their commercials influence people to buy their products and tell Congress that their commercials don't entice kids to smoke, drink and have sex; can't we just decide that a fictional movie will only influence those who are too weak (mentally and spiritually) to handle it?

Hobbit.. don't bother me with your ying and yang right now... I have too many hot men to download and post on this blog tomorrow. I am going to be up for hours! I hope none of those mentally and spiritually weak people don't visit here tomorrow!
