I Try To Always Set A Good Example...

Last night my daughter Hope and I went to go see the movie Mama Mia. If you have not seen this movie yet and you have a uterus (or if you at one time had a uterus) and are above the age of High School Musical and the Jonas Brothers, well then you should stop reading this blog RIGHT NOW! Go directly to your car, drive to the movie theater and go see this musical. You will not be sorry!

We went to go see the movie with our friends Lori and Morgan. Lori is my friend and Morgan (a product of Mike and Lori Love) is Hope's friend.

Lori and I both had hot flashes during this film because of the middle aged beautiful men like Pierce Brosnan and Colin Firth. Isn't it funny that after you pass the age of 30, men in their 20's don't look so good anymore. I always look at young men as someones child... so please give me a middle aged beautiful man who knows how to take care of a woman and isn't afraid to tow the line.

When the movie was over I looked at Lori and said "Let's see it again!" So we did what any hot blooded woman who shops in the Misses department would do... we hid in the bathroom until the movie started again and sat through it giddily and hot flashily.

As we were leaving, Lori and I were singing ABBA songs and Lori can do a mean shoulder roll if I do say so myself. I am more of the hip swaying persuasion-but we all know our strengths don't we?

Our daughters refused to walk with us and couldn't believe that we thought the old man in the film was sexy. A chorus of "EWWWWS" was heard from the back of the van.

So yes my friends of the Mature Boobies Club... this movie is for you! Finally a movie that women can enjoy, that does not have skinny beautiful girls flaunting around half naked. This is a Mama's Movie. Meryl Streep did a fantastic job! I hear she gets all of her talent from New Jersey.

Why are you still reading this post? You should be half way to the theater by now. Go buy yourself some Milk Duds and enjoy. I am going back tomorrow.

Mercy.

"A middle aged beautiful man who knows how to take care of a woman and isn't afraid to tow the line."

That should be my description! But it is not, no matter how hard I try.

My description is... "Middle aged man, kind of pudgy and funny, but really nice".

YAY! I am so excited to hear a good review. I saw this play on broadway
(in NYCity) and my girls have the CD that I bought and KNOW all the songs. I was hoping to see this with my older 2 girls.

SIGH ... I think Colin Firth and Pierce are just "dreamy".

I sent my uterus to Pakistan for 6 months. Does anybody have one I can borrow for a couple of hours? Uh, so that I can go see a chick flick, not for any of those other, dirty reasons that might have popped into some of your minds! Like Steve, I don't meet the requirements, except it's because I don't know how to take care of a woman and I hold out no hope that I ever will know how to.

Love the Review, so hilarious. But, I have only found one actor that I can really just go to see him on screen - regardless of whatever the movie might be about... One guy that could be any character in any movie because the story line, the characters and such really wouldn't matter in the least to me. That's Jackie Chan, and I will be going to see his new movie when it comes out soon!

Hmm...since we saw it in Vegas I'm afraid it won't be as good as the live version.

Would Ainsley like it? :)

Love the name of the Mature Boobies Club. I could totally be president of that sorority! I want to go see this, and get some milk duds too. And, is it Pierce you were talking about? My love for him goes back to Remington Steele days when I was only about 8.

Oooh, yay! I'm so excited to hear it's good -- a good friend and my daughter and I are going to see it Tuesday. Love ABBA, love Milk Duds, love Colin Firth--how can I lose!!

I would love to be able to love this musical and this movie...but I simply can't get past the premise. And I was all set to enjoy it, until I learned that premise. Does it bother no one else that in essence this play and movie have glamorized the precise kind of conduct we hope our daughters WON'T engage in?

I mean, a mom who doesn't know for sure who her daughter's father is?
How is the daughter "fine" with this? Is it all written off to adolescent wildness of some kind? Does she ever explain why in the world she was so promiscuous? And, like I said, how is the daughter "okay" with this?

I haven't seen the play, nor the movie, so someone who has can maybe enlighten me in this. I just know that when I mentioned this to my 22-year-old daughter--and asked, "Do I have a problem? Am I making too much of this?" She said that coming to grips with the revelation that her mom didn't know for sure who her dad was would freak her out. (!)

Like I said, I would LOVE to go see this. It looks fun. But in the back of my mind, I can't shake the creepy "eeww" feeling that I get whenever I think of the mom's immorality, and what message this is sending underneath all the happy-happy music and dancing and hoo-rahing going on. Not everyone who sins in this way early in her life has this kind of (what apparently is a) happy ending, and I think it's a fundamental dishonesty to ignore that for a few ABBA tunes.

Just call me a curmudgeon, I guess. :-)

How did you get your "comment" to say "people ignoring dirty laundry as well"? If you see this comment, have time, and remember, would you e-mail me instructions at apotter3 AT neb.rr.com? I would be ever so grateful!
Thanks!

Followed Dirty Harry's lead. Loved your review and your sense of humor. Showed it to my wife, and she and a friend are preparing to see the movie real soon. I think you have found some new followers.

June,
My girlfriend, Beckie and I went to see Mama Mia last evening. We really enjoyed it! I couldn't keep from tapping my foot...it was so fun. The music, the scenery and the humor.
I was a little disappointed with the ending...times have surely changed! I too hope to go and see it again!
Two roses up from me!!
