Scissors? I Don't Even Know What Scissors Look Like Mama! Honest...

Baby hair is so hard to figure out isn't it? Some babies are born with a head full of hair and other babies, like my babies, are born with sporadic hair.
Mary's hair was finally starting to come in nicely; her entire head was covered with hair and she even had little ringlet curls in the back. She was adorable...

I say "was" because someone... we do not know who... cut a big chunk of hair right smack dab in the middle of Mary's forehead.

I assembled all children and asked who it was that cut the hair (knowing full well that the 5 year old had the greatest chance at being guilty). Well, it seems that no one had any idea what I was talking about and they were all equally shocked at the chunk of hair cut out of little Mary's almost nonexistent head of hair.

Mary is apparently a genius and has figured out how to use scissors at the early age of 18 months... and if you believe that I have the winning numbers to the lottery in the UK and if you just sign this one piece of paper and send $1000 post hast, ONE MILLION DOLLARS WILL BE DEPOSITED INTO YOUR CHECKING ACCOUNT!

Last night I had to cut Mary's bangs to match the chunk that had already been taken out by the hair fairy. She looks like the little Dutch boy. It is very depressing.

Maybe next Christmas we will be able to have a normal family picture to send out. A mother can dream...

Both of my girls were born with heads full of dark hair. Daughter 1's hair was so long it went past the collar of her sleeper.
Both had their first trims before they turned 3 months old.
Neither of my babies ever took scissors to their own hair or the hair of others, because they were just perfect. Perfect, I say!
We went to a salon one fateful day. The girls had their trims, then was taken to the sink to rinse out my color. Daughter the second, 4 at the time, came back from the waiting area watch. Her bangs were bit mussed, so I reached out to smooth them. A chunk of bang fell to the floor. Another smoothing attempt resulted in another chunk falling to the floor. The child took the hairdresser's scissors to her own freshly-trimmed bangs. Six year old daughter the first just stood there and watched her do it.
Our hairdresser was able to fix the problem without making daughter the second look crazy, but the poor woman was mortified. Although no child had ever took her scissors off her counter, she felt responsible.
Despite the fact that my previously perfect babies are now 8 and 10, they only have access to play-doh cutting scissors without asking. It may no longer occur to either that it is NOT okay to cut off her sister's ear with the kitchen scissors.

I came in from the garage one day to the sound of the drawer where the scissors are stored being slammed shut. My daughter jumped into a chair and tried to look nonchalant. My older son cracked under my intense interrogation, which consisted of a slightly quizzical look. I had only been out front for a minute. PJ volunteered, "Anne cut her hair!". she had indeed. A huge chunk out of the back, smack in the center. She was 4 or 5 at the time.

I never had anyone play beauty shop on anyone else but themselves but I did have a brownie thief, who if not for the smear of chocolate across their teeth and corners of their mouth would have totally had me convinced he even knew what a brownie looked like.
Kids gotta love' em. Got to becaseu it's going to become illegal to drop them off at the firestation here anyday now.

My daughter cut her own hair...thank goodness the front was pulled back since she didn't have bangs. I couldn't figure out why there was fuzzy stuff all over the couch until she showed me her bear. It too got a hair cut.

June,
Your cousin cut her own hair, right up front where she could grab ahold of a chunk.
I told her that every child tried doing that, but they could only do it once. So she could never do that again. She believed me! Then I hid all the scissors.
Hee hee!
Love,
Aunt Barbara

Oh, and I was so happy to hear that things are normal around your house. I was beginning to think life was getting boring around there. Here, it was just a lull in the excitement!
Love you all!

I've often wondered if I could get away with cutting off a big chunk of my wife's hair and blaming one of the kids, or the dog, or the cat, or the hermit crab. She hates having to braid it every morning but refuses to cut it either. What's a guy to do?
