The Day After...

Do you remember that movie when you were a kid called The Day After? That movie scared the living crapola out of me... well, my Valentine's Day was much like that movie.

I ended up alone (after the kids were all nestled in their beds with visions of a sane mother taking care of them) drinking a bottle of wine and dancing to Nickelback songs on my iPod in my pj's until 2 a.m.

Yeah-not one of my finest moments.

I did get to talk to Carl, but I am sure my end of the conversation sounded a lot like Dudley Moore and when he said "Are you drunk?" I said "Is there anything more beautiful than a beautiful, beautiful flamingo, flying across in front of a beautiful sunset? And he's carrying a beautiful rose in his beak, and also he's carrying a beautiful painting with his feet. And also, you're drunk." (who said it? The winner gets a prize... not really, but still.)

I also did a lot of research on tattoos last night.

There was nothing on TV.

And all of my friends were with their Valentines.

So I decided to dance.

And drink.

Next holiday alone... President's Day! Phew, that one should be a piece of cake.

I was alone, too. =( I tripled my usual cookie recipe so I'd have something to keep me in the kitchen all night . . . and ended up burning the last batch I put in the oven.

At least it's over now, right? ;)

  3. I have visions of a married Bridgette Jones! Next year will be better. Unless of course Carl's visit produced a new little one to the Cleaver clan!

  4. No Melissa-no... no new little Cleavers will be crawling around. I am safe for another 6 months.

    hehe

  5. June,
I thought of you yesterday. I saw an old movie at my little downtown theater:
The Major and the Minor, Ray Milland and Ginger Rogers.
God Bless all the military spouses; those who wait also serve.

  8. First of all, a night of wine and dancing by yourself in your pjs is not sad...it is FUN. It is one of my favorites. You are too! Hopefully next year, he'll be home.

  9. I'm pretty sure your quote is one of Jack Handy's Deep Thoughts. Here's my favorite - used often with our kids:

"If a kid asks where rain comes from, I think a cute thing to tell him is, "God is crying." And if he asks why God is crying, another cute thing to tell him is, "Probably because of something you did."

  10. I'm a fan of yours - and of Jack Handey, so I know that was one of his deep thoughts. I used to laugh my head off during Deep Thoughts on SNL and everyone else was looking at the TV funny. So now I'm a truly devoted follower of your blog - not everyone quotes Deep Thoughts - and with the wine and Nickelback, all the more fun!

  11. Researching tattoos, eh? Drinking wine, eh? June, I need you to go into your bedroom right now...find a mirror and do a body check. I think the odds are 2:1 that you have a new tattoo somewhere on your body!

  12. ding ding ding... it was Jack Handy... who I have always laughed at and Carl just sits there and says "that was so stupid." sigh.

Warren, the only tattoo that would have been added would have been a permanent marker'd one... but thank goodness I could not find any markers seeing as I have children who make it their job in life to hide every marker, pen, pencil and crayon in this house when I absolutely need one.

    Ha!

  13. Yay!
The old laptop has the correct mojo (or perversion, take your pick) to be able to leave comments!
My heart is feelin' for you bloggy friend!
I hope you danced the night away...and didn't wake up too hungover.
    ((hugs))

  14. I know Terry! Can you believe that ridiculous question? Of course I was drunk-to be anything else would have been a crying shame.

    Pfffft.

  15. Oh June, I am reading old posts (old to me) as I said I would. And I knew it was Jack Handy and got so excited... but alas someone beat me to the punch by about 5 months. I don't know Teri, but I can tell I don't like her for stealing my thunder like that.
Ok no need to actually approve and post this comment. Just wanted to tell you that. Bc its friday and me no wanna work.
Hope you are ok out there!
